Remove the pool, Reclaim the space

An old or unused swimming pool can take up valuable backyard space while adding ongoing maintenance and limiting future renovations. Removing it gives you the freedom to create a lawn, garden, entertaining area or expand your next project.

Every pool is different, so the right removal approach depends on the pool type, site access, surrounding structures and your plans for the area. We assess each property individually to ensure the site is prepared properly for its next use.

Partial vs Complete Removal

Finding Your Best Match

The right choice depends entirely on your backyard goals.

Pool Backfilling

Pool decommissioning and backfilling can be a practical option when the goal is to reclaim the space for other uses.

Partial Pool Removal

Specific sections of the pool are demolished, with the remaining structure then prepared and backfilled. The intended use of the area should be taken into account when determining whether this approach is appropriate.

Complete Pool Removal

The entire pool structure is removed from the ground, along with the associated materials and debris. The area is then backfilled and prepared for its next use, providing a clean slate for future plans.

What’s Involved in Pool Removal

Removing the Pool Is Just the Start

Pool removal can involve much more than taking out the pool itself. Depending on the site, the work may include service disconnections, demolition, excavation, removal of concrete and steel, imported fill, compaction, drainage and preparation of the final ground levels.

How the Process Works

Turning Unwanted Pools into Ready-to-Use Space

Every removal is planned around site access and future land use, matching the right demolition and fill technique to your property.

Initial assessment covers the pool type, size, access, surrounding structures and future use of the space.

We establish what is required for demolition, disposal, backfilling, drainage, approvals and site reinstatement.

Removal & Site Compaction

Once the agreed removal work is complete, the remaining void is prepared and backfilled.

Site Reinstatement & Finishing

The finished area can be graded and prepared for turf, landscaping or other planned uses.

No Two Pool Removals Are the Same

Every Site Calls for a Different Approach

The pool structure, reinforcement, surrounding surfaces, available access and nearby structures can all affect how the work is carried out and what equipment is best suited to the site.

Cost factors

What Shapes Your Quote?

Size isn't the only factor. Access limits, disposal, and future land use play a major role in your overall quote.

Pool Construction

The pool structure, wall thickness, and coping/surrounding paving affect the demolition technique required.

Site Access

Gate widths, side access, retaining walls and nearby structures can influence the equipment, labour and time required.

Post-Removal Plans

Preparing the site for a lawn versus a building slab may require a different scope of work.

“After our inground concrete pool developed a major structural issue due to ground subsidence we looked at two different repair options but the company would not guarantee the repairs saying that the structural issues would most likely happen again. I then contacted Lee from Waterwise Constructions about decommissioning the pool, filling it up with solid fill and reclaiming valuable yard space. We wanted to divide the pool area in half, a pebbled garden and a deck area which required different finished levels, as specified by the deck builder. This was no problem at all for Lee and all consultations and measurements were done by phone calls and emailed photos. Lee and Bruno were onsite on time, did an honest days work, worked around the odd shape of the pool, consulted with me as the job progressed and did a top job tiding up. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish even during the rain.

The end result was exactly how I envisaged. We now have our yard back that we can use 12 months of the year rather than using the pool for 4 months of the year, saving on pool running and maintenance costs. I would wholeheartedly recommend Waterwise Constructions for turning a pool into valuable yard space.”
